Broncos coach Kevin Walters praises Sam Walker, labeling him as an outstanding player in response to speculation surrounding him.

Kevin Walters has dismissed the idea of pursuing Roosters halfback Sam Walker, stating that the Broncos are satisfied with their current options for playmakers. Although it’s anticipated that Walker will continue with the Roosters for the foreseeable future, he hasn’t extended his contract beyond next year, potentially making him a free agent on November 1 if the Roosters don’t secure him. Walker, at 21, is regarded as one of the top emerging halves in the sport and showcased his talent with a stellar performance on Anzac Day, dismantling the Dragons in a 60-18 win.

Earlier this week, Adam Reynolds was asked about the possibility of the Broncos targeting Sam Walker as his replacement for the 2026 season and beyond. However, Reynolds expressed confidence in the current talent within the Broncos squad to step up long-term. In anticipation of the Roosters’ upcoming match against Brisbane on Friday night, Kevin Walters was questioned about Reynolds’ remarks and ruled out any pursuit of Walker.

“Reyno’s assessment is spot on,” Walters remarked. “We have full faith in our current roster, especially in the halves department. Sam seems firmly entrenched with the Roosters now.”

He continued, “He’s an outstanding player, as evidenced by his performance against the Dragons last week… However, we can’t solely focus on Walker, as the Roosters boast a strong lineup with talent across the board.”
