Deal Canceled: Jamal Adams deal to rejoin the Seattle Seahawks is terminated by the ChairmanÂJody Allen due to his….

Reportedly, for Jamal Adams to rejoin the Seattle Seahawks in free agency, he may need to accept a positional change. According to ESPN’s Brady Henderson, the Seahawks’ interest hinges on Adams agreeing to transition to weakside linebacker on a part-time basis rather than his usual safety role. Additionally, due to the Seahawks’ limited salary cap space, Adams would likely need to sign for close to the league minimum. Originally drafted by the New York Jets in 2017, Adams earned Pro Bowl honors twice during his tenure there and was named First Team All-Pro in 2019.

The Jets traded Adams and a fourth-round pick to Seattle in 2020 for two first-round picks and a third-round pick. Initially, this seemed like a win for the Seahawks, especially as Adams made his third consecutive Pro Bowl in 2020 with impressive stats, including setting a new single-season NFL record for sacks by a defensive back. However, Adams didn’t record a single sack in the following three seasons, though he did achieve a career-high two interceptions in 2021. Injuries have plagued Adams throughout his career, causing him to miss multiple games each season over the past five years.

In 2022, a torn quad limited Adams to just one game, and he missed most of the 2023 season due to various injuries, including ongoing quad issues. Despite starting all nine games he played in 2023, Adams was ultimately released by the Seahawks alongside Quandre Diggs at the end of the season. The Seahawks are set to have Julian Love and Rayshawn Jenkins as their starting duo for 2024, leaving no room for Adams in the secondary. However, a shift to linebacker could suit Adams well, considering his experience near the line of scrimmage. Focusing on rushing the quarterback and stopping the run could highlight Adams’ strengths and mitigate potential weaknesses in pass coverage.
