As of May 14, 2025, there are no reports of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau being involved in a private jet crash. However, there have been instances in recent years where aircraft transporting the Prime Minister experienced mechanical issues, leading to delays but no injuries.
In January 2025, during a family vacation in Jamaica, Trudeau’s aircraft encountered a maintenance issue prior to departure. The Department of National Defence dispatched a maintenance team and a second aircraft to address the problem, allowing the Prime Minister to return to Ottawa on the original plane after repairs were completed.
Similarly, in September 2023, following the G20 summit in New Delhi, India, Trudeau’s plane was grounded due to a technical fault discovered before takeoff. The delegation was delayed overnight while the issue was resolved.
These incidents underscore the challenges associated with maintaining government aircraft but did not result in any harm to the Prime Minister or his entourage.
It is important to note that Prime Minister Trudeau announced in January 2025 his intention to resign as leader of the Liberal Party and as Prime Minister once a successor is chosen. Mark Carney was elected as the new leader in March 2025, and the transition of power commenced shortly thereafter.
