Nsiala has never appeared in a senior football match despite being included in first-team squads during his time with the Italian giants, so how he performs in Glasgow remains “the big unknown.”

The young Frenchman is the third confirmed signing of the summer, having agreed to join on July 1, following full-back Jefte and a loan-to-buy deal to bring winger Oscar Cortes back. However, signing Nsiala on a low-risk, high-reward basis for a young player who had some admirers could prove to be a stroke of genius if things go well. If Nsiala doesn’t make a contribution as impactful as Bassey did three seasons ago, there won’t be much harm done since he joins for free and is likely to be on modest wages initially.

As long as the manager and Nils Koppen manage to secure enough reinforcements with adequate skill and experience to elevate the team’s performance from the start next season, Nsiala can, in theory, develop quietly in the background.

However, if he’s required to step up early and showcase his abilities, it could indicate ongoing injury problems at Ibrox or a decline in form from the players ahead of him.
