The OU co-captain helped maintain harmony in the Sooners’ locker room as the team pursued a historic season.
OKLAHOMA CITY
OKLAHOMA CITY — This generation of Oklahoma was renowned for its enthusiasm. Walks were celebrated as much as home runs and run-saving catches, and Tiare Jennings was no exception.
But in 2024, the OU co-captain brought something unique to the team: a sense of calm. Her game often spoke volumes. Jennings finished her career third all-time in home runs, behind only Karli Spaid from Miami (OH) and Jocelyn Alo, and she had the ability to shift the game in an instant. She was always expressive, smiling across the infield and offering support to her teammates, but her composure off the field helped the Sooners navigate the challenges of pursuing a fourth consecutive national title.
“Tiare is just the calm, quiet, level one,†OU coach Patty Gasso said after the Sooners secured the championship last week. “They all have such big personalities. Then there’s a balance with someone like Tiare.â€
Jennings and Kinzie Hansen were voted captains, a role that can be challenging with a team that boasts such a decorated senior class. They handled the responsibility exceptionally well.
This season, the team had to take a different path to the title.
