SO SAD: GWS Giants star Sam Taylor sidelined indefinitely following surgery for ruptured testicle…..

Star GWS defender Sam Taylor has been sidelined indefinitely following surgery for a ruptured testicle.

Taylor sustained the injury in last week’s 22-point victory over Port Adelaide.

Although the two-time All-Australian defender was not listed on the official GWS injury report on Tuesday, the club announced the news via social media on Wednesday.

A timeline for his return will be established after he consults with a specialist.

“Sam Taylor will be out of action after suffering a ruptured testicle during last week’s game and undergoing successful surgery yesterday,” the post stated.

“Sam is at home and recovering, with a timeline for his return to be determined after consulting with specialists. Sending our love to Slammer.”

Taylor’s injury comes at a critical time for the Giants, who have won only two of their last six games and whose season is at a turning point.

GWS (8-5) are currently fifth on the ladder, but only one win ahead of the teams ranked 9-12.

The Giants are set to play the top-ranked Sydney Swans on Saturday.

Taylor was expected to mark Sydney’s key forward Joel Amartey, who scored nine goals against Adelaide last week.

Earlier this week, Sydney coach John Longmire praised Taylor as the best defender in the league.

“Sam Taylor is probably the best defender in the competition right now. It’s going to be a significant challenge for (Amartey),” Longmire said.
