Falcons expected to target \$39 million veteran wide receiver recently released by an AFC South team.

The Atlanta Falcons are aiming to take a major step forward this season after falling just short last year. Despite being in a strong position to win the NFC South, they ultimately ceded the division to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers once again. One of the offseason’s biggest talking points has been whether the Falcons will trade quarterback Kirk Cousins. While Cousins remains on the roster for now, there’s speculation he could end up in Pittsburgh.

“The Steelers have signaled, and even publicly expressed, their confidence that Rodgers will wind up on their roster. And if he doesn’t, I’d imagine they’d explore a trade for Kirk Cousins,” wrote NFL insider Albert Breer.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers’ wide receiver corps has become even more formidable with the addition of Emeka Egbuka, adding to what’s now considered “an abundance of riches,” according to *The Insiders*.

The Falcons made aggressive moves in the draft to shore up their defense, selecting Jalon Walker and trading up for James Pearce. These picks were met with praise from star pass rusher Maxx Crosby.

“We’re going all in. We’re drafting two D-ends in the first round. We don’t give a f—. It’s the two best athletes in our opinion. They got two young ballers who are going to develop and hopefully be bookends for years. That’s the vision,” Crosby said. “I’ve watched their film—dogs!”

Now, the Falcons are eyeing a veteran wide receiver to strengthen the group behind returning standouts Darnell Mooney and Drake London. A new option just became available: Gabe Davis, who was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars after one disappointing season despite signing a three-year contract.

“In fact, a receiver just released on Wednesday should be at the top of the Falcons’ FA WR target list. The Jacksonville Jaguars released veteran wide receiver Gabe Davis after one year with the club,” noted Jovan Alford.

If Mooney and London can build on last season’s momentum, adding Davis could turn Atlanta’s receiving corps into one of the most dangerous in the league.
