  • Derrick Plourde Tribute Inspires Jesse Buglione’s Permanent Return to Lagwagon

In a heartfelt announcement this June, Lagwagon has confirmed bassist Jesse Buglione will rejoin the band full-time—an emotional homecoming inspired by renewed celebration of their late founding drummer, Derrick Plourde (1971–2005).

The decision comes after a series of tribute events marking the 20th anniversary of Plourde’s passing. Fans from around the world participated in drum clinics and benefit shows, celebrating his legacy as a pioneering figure in skate‑punk drumming. The band’s renewed focus on Plourde’s impact created a powerful moment of reflection, rekindling Buglione’s deep connection to the group.

“It hit me hard diving back into Derrick’s story—the way he built our sound with those intricate beats, how multifaceted he was—as a musician, an artist, a carpenter,” Buglione shared. “Hearing those stories again, I realized why Lagwagon mattered to me.”

Buglione co-founded Lagwagon in 1990 and served as bassist until 2010, departing to spend more time with his family. He went on to pursue a career outside music, but remained a beloved figure during the band’s milestone reunions—subbing in during 2024–2025 tours.

The band’s frontman, Joey Cape, confirmed Buglione’s commitment through their official channels: “When Jesse sat in for those recent shows, it felt like the missing puzzle piece came back. Now, it’s full-time. We’re excited for what comes next.”

Expectations are high for forthcoming projects. With a renewed lineup, Lagwagon hints at fresh material honoring Plourde’s intricate rhythmic legacy. Cape noted they aim to channel Derrick’s “unmatched creativity and depth” into new songs and live performances.

Fans can look forward to an upcoming East Coast tour in late 2025, where Lagwagon will mix classic tracks—like “Hoss” and “Move the Car,” iconic for Plourde’s signature fills—with new compositions rooted in emotional homage.

Buglione’s return marks a pivotal moment: the band fully embracing its past, honoring Derrick Plourde’s powerful influence while stepping forward into its next chapter.
