In a heartfelt and unexpected announcement, Isaac Hanson—eldest member of the iconic pop-rock trio Hanson—has confirmed he is permanently stepping away from the band after more than three decades of music-making with his brothers, Taylor and Zac.

The announcement came via a video statement posted to the band’s official channels late Wednesday night, where Isaac, 44, appeared visibly emotional but calm. “This has been the most meaningful journey of my life,” he said. “But after deep reflection, I feel it’s time for me to step back permanently and focus on other aspects of life—my health, my family, and some creative projects I’ve long postponed.”

Formed in 1992, Hanson rose to international stardom in 1997 with their chart-topping single MMMBop, and quickly became a household name. Since then, the brothers have released multiple albums, toured globally, and maintained a fiercely loyal fanbase. Isaac’s exit marks the first major lineup change in the band’s 33-year history.

Taylor and Zac also released a joint statement, expressing support for their brother’s decision. “This isn’t the end of Hanson, but it is a new chapter,” they said. “We respect Isaac’s choice and will always cherish the journey we’ve shared together.”

While the band had been preparing for their 2025 “Next Chapter” world tour and album release, it’s now unclear how Isaac’s departure will affect those plans. Sources close to the band say select dates may be restructured, with Taylor and Zac continuing the tour as a duo under the Hanson name—for now.

Fans across the globe are sharing tributes, memories, and gratitude for Isaac’s contribution to a musical legacy that helped shape an era.

“Thank you for the music, Isaac,” one fan wrote. “Hanson won’t be the same without you.”
