Tarja Turunen and Floor Jansen to Release Joint Album—Then Battle Live On Stage
In what may be the most jaw-dropping twist in symphonic metal history, former Nightwish vocalists Tarja Turunen and Floor Jansen have announced a joint concept album—but with a wild twist: the release will be followed by a live tour featuring an onstage vocal battle between the two powerhouse singers.
Titled “Voices of the North”, the album is said to blend their contrasting vocal styles, with tracks written as duets, duels, and dramatic face-offs. According to insiders, Tuomas Holopainen was approached to produce one of the tracks but “politely declined.” Rumors say the two singers haven’t spoken directly to each other in years, and this project emerged from “creative competition, not reconciliation.”
The tour, named “Clash of the Sirens”, will debut in Helsinki next spring, featuring a unique format: each night, audiences will vote for the winner of the vocal showdown via a live app. A full orchestra and pyrotechnics are expected to accompany each battle, giving the shows an operatic, almost cinematic flair.
Fans are divided. Some hail this as a “dream come true,” while others call it “a publicity stunt that insults the legacy of Nightwish.” Still, pre-sales for the tour crashed several websites within minutes of opening.
In a joint statement, Tarja said, “This isn’t about who’s better—it’s about celebrating two different eras of power.” Floor added, “But may the strongest voice win.”
Whether this is the greatest comeback in symphonic metal or an overly theatrical feud, one thing is clear: the world will be watching—and listening—very closely.
Get ready. The stage is set. The battle of the queens begins soon.
