The Vancouver Canucks confirmed Friday morning that head coach Adam Foote sustained a minor injury during what the team described as a “routine morning outing.” The incident occurred early Friday in the Kitsilano Beach area, where Foote was reportedly enjoying a walk before practice.
According to a statement released by the team, Foote suffered a “mild ankle sprain” after tripping on uneven pavement near a park trail. He was treated at a local medical clinic and later returned home to rest.
“Coach Foote is in good spirits and is expected to make a full recovery within a few days,” said General Manager Patrik Allvin. “He remains in close contact with the coaching staff and plans to resume his duties shortly.”
Assistant coaches will oversee the day’s team activities in Foote’s absence. Despite the injury, the organization emphasized that there will be no disruption to the team’s offseason development schedule.
Foote, who was recently promoted to head coach following the departure of Rick Tocchet, has been a key figure in the Canucks’ ongoing efforts to retool and reenergize the roster heading into the 2025–26 NHL season.
Fans took to social media to express support, with many joking that the veteran defenseman “still blocks injuries like he blocked shots.” Others praised the team’s transparency and wished Foote a speedy recovery.
As of Friday afternoon, no further medical intervention is expected, and Coach Foote is anticipated to rejoin the team by early next week.
