Six Dallas Mavericks could be dealt this summer
The Maxi Kleber
Maxi Kleber’s contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks at the end of the 2021–2022 season felt like a wise decision. Kleber was crucial to Dallas’ success on both ends of the court during their postseason run, so giving him a three-year, $33 million contract extension seemed like a good deal at the time.
It’s always helpful to have a few good-sized 3-and-D players, and Kleber fits the bill. However, the Mavs could wish they could go back in time and undo granting Kleber the contract extension in 2022 after he suffered a hamstring injury and a dislocated toe.
Kleber is shooting 31.8 percent from three-point range and 41.1 percent from the field while averaging 4.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 0.7 blocks a game for the Mavs this season. For the Mavs, Kleber has had one of his least productive seasons to date, and it’s possible that he’ll be traded this summer.
With two years remaining on his contract, Kleber might be included in a trade by Dallas if they want to add another top role player. Kleber’s deal is quite tradeable at $11 million a year, and he hasn’t been performing well enough to justify it.
Kleber contributes a lot of small things that the Mavs don’t track, so it wouldn’t be shocking if they tried to trade him this summer.
