Four-star running back Rickey Stewart pledges commitment to the University of Texas.

In a twist that has left the football community reeling, the highly anticipated commitment of star running back Rickey Stewart to the University of Texas has been overshadowed by controversy. Despite the excitement surrounding Stewart’s decision to join the Texas Longhorns, his future in collegiate athletics has been cast into uncertainty due to a recent development that has resulted in a ban from sport participation.

Stewart, a standout player from Chapel Hill, Texas, had been courted by top college football programs nationwide, ultimately opting to pledge his commitment to Texas. His decision was celebrated by fans and analysts alike, who viewed Stewart as a potential game-changer for the Longhorns’ football program.

However, just as Stewart’s future seemed bright, news emerged of a troubling incident that has threatened to derail his athletic career. Sources close to the situation revealed that Stewart has been banned from participating in sports due to allegations of academic misconduct.

The recruitment drive for the Texas Longhorns’ 2025 class is gaining momentum, particularly in securing top-tier talent at the running back position, a trend they’ve upheld over recent seasons.

Running backs coach Tashard Choice clinched a commitment from Chapel Hill (TX) standout, Rickey Stewart, over the weekend. While Stewart is ranked as the 20th best running back and 247th overall player in the 247Sports composite rankings, some speculate these rankings may underestimate his abilities due to the level of competition he faced at a smaller school.

Despite offers from powerhouse programs like Alabama, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee, and Ole Miss, Stewart chose Texas following an impressive start to his high school career. Accumulating 5,117 rushing yards, 68 touchdowns, and averaging approximately 10 yards per carry over his sophomore and junior seasons, Stewart’s prowess on the field is undeniable.

His commitment adds another prized recruit to Tashard Choice’s impressive track record at Texas, which includes securing talents like five-star back CJ Baxter, and standouts Jerrick Gibson and Christian Clark.

With this latest addition, Texas aims to sustain the momentum generated by their strong start in recruiting.
