Detroit Lions are reportedly preparing to propose a remarkable contract extension to Jared Goff.

One year ago, speculation swirled about the Detroit Lions possibly selecting a quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft. Although they did draft Hendon Hooker with the 68th overall pick, Jared Goff then delivered one of his most impressive NFL seasons, guiding the Lions to their first NFC Conference Championship appearance since 1991.

As Goff approaches the final year of his contract, there’s no longer talk of the Lions seeking another quarterback. With Goff as the established starter and Hooker developing as a backup, the Lions’ quarterback depth chart seems settled, at least for now.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Lions are poised to extend Goff’s contract with a deal valued at around $45-50 million annually, potentially placing him among the top-paid quarterbacks in the league.

“He wants to stay with the team. At just 29 years old and earning about $28 million this year, he’s expected to command a salary in the range of $45-50 million annually, given his performance. So, negotiations might take some time,” explained ESPN’s NFL insider Jeremy Fowler regarding the Lions’ discussions on Jared Goff’s contract.

Since joining Detroit in 2021 via trade, Goff has embraced the city and its team, swiftly easing fans’ concerns following Matthew Stafford’s departure to LA. He’s not just filling the void; he’s revitalizing the Lions, positioning them as serious contenders for the Super Bowl in the NFC.

Given Goff’s impact and commitment to Detroit, it’s unlikely the Lions will part ways with him anytime soon, regardless of the financial investment required to retain him.
