Blaze Alexander is taking charge of adapting to changes at shortstop, stating, “The responsibility falls on me.”
Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Blaze Alexander remains optimistic about proving himself as a capable shortstop despite experiencing defensive challenges in the first two weeks of his MLB career. With Geraldo Perdomo sidelined due to meniscus surgery and Jordan Lawlar recovering from thumb surgery, there’s an opportunity for Alexander to establish himself as the primary shortstop.
Alexander has encountered early mistakes both on ground balls and pop-ups, particularly noticeable during Arizona’s recent loss to the Atlanta Braves. He currently holds the distinction of being the only MLB player with a -6 outs above average statistic as of Sunday.
Nevertheless, Alexander maintains confidence in his abilities, expressing determination to showcase his true defensive prowess. He showcased strong defensive skills during spring training, which contributed to his spot on the team.
Manager Torey Lovullo has alternative options in Kevin Newman for left-handed pitchers and Jace Peterson for right-handed pitchers.
