Ipswich Town: Jack Marriott and Louie Barry secure promotion from League Two.
Former Ipswich Town pair Louie Barry and Jack Marriott have secured promotions from League Two with Stockport County and Wrexham, respectively.
Both teams sealed their promotions over the weekend with victories, currently leading the table in first and second positions.
Barry, currently on loan from Aston Villa to Stockport, has contributed significantly, featuring in 20 matches and scoring nine goals for Dave Challinor’s squad. Despite facing a hamstring injury in October, he returned to action this month, aiding Stockport in achieving promotion to the third tier for the first time since 2008. There’s a possibility of lifting the league title if they win against Notts County tonight. Barry previously had a brief stint at Portman Road during the first half of the 2021/22 season, making six appearances.
Marriott made a move from Fleetwood Town to Wrexham on the January deadline day. He has appeared in 15 games and scored once for Phil Parkinson’s side. His first goal came in their 6-0 victory over Forest Green Rovers, marking consecutive promotions following last season’s National League title triumph. Wrexham, under the ownership of Hollywood figures Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, will return to League One for the first time since 2004/05.
Marriott started his career at Town, progressing through the youth academy but only making three appearances for the Blues.
