Emotinal saga: Bulldogs most talented star player is about to leave due to…..
Star player Marcus Bontempelli’s future with the Western Bulldogs is uncertain, despite his desire to remain loyal to the club. Reports suggest that Bontempelli, regarded as one of the league’s best midfielders, is hesitant to commit to a new contract beyond 2025. This reluctance has emerged despite his expressed wish to stay with the Bulldogs.
According to Herald Sun journalist Scott Gullan, speaking on Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle, Bontempelli has been cautious about extending his contract with the club. While other players like Naughton, Jamarra, and English have been the focus of contract talks, Bontempelli’s situation has been less prominent. Gullan notes that Bontempelli’s frustration with internal issues at the club, particularly between coach Luke Beveridge and football director Chris Grant, has contributed to his hesitance.
Bontempelli has typically signed shorter-term deals with the Bulldogs compared to other star players. His current four-year contract was signed in May 2021, following a two-year extension in 2018. However, there is now doubt about his continued loyalty to the club if issues within the organization are not resolved.
Despite Bontempelli’s strong performance on the field, with impressive statistics this season, the Bulldogs have experienced a turbulent start in 2024. As captain since 2020, Bontempelli has led the team with distinction, showcasing his versatility as an inside midfielder who can also score goals effectively.
