All scholarship players from the Louisville men’s basketball team have entered the transfer portal.

The Louisville men’s basketball program is undergoing a much-needed overhaul across all aspects.

With Pat Kelsey taking the helm as the new head coach for the 2024-25 season, replacing Kenny Payne, significant changes are underway. This includes an almost complete turnover of the roster for the upcoming season, as every scholarship player from the 2023-24 team has now entered the transfer portal. The final scholarship player, freshman point guard Ty-Laur Johnson, made his entry into the portal official on Tuesday afternoon.

These transformations are essential for a program that was once esteemed but has recently struggled, becoming one of the weakest in men’s basketball. A decade ago, the Cardinals clinched a national title; however, in the past two years under Payne’s leadership, they endured a dismal 12-52 record overall, including a 5-35 record in ACC games.

Kelsey is swiftly revamping the team by recruiting new talent, securing transfers Reyne Smith and James Scott, with Terrence Edwards, the Sun Belt player of the year, anticipated to visit the campus this week.

Louisville’s absence from the tournament since the 2018-19 season, making only two appearances in the past nine years, underscores the need for a fresh start, which the program is finally embarking upon.
