Griquas are anticipating positive updates regarding Vlam.

The Griquas are concerned about the condition of their dynamic flanker, Lourens Oosthuizen, following a significant knee injury sustained over the weekend in Kimberley.

During the third round of the Airlink Cup clash against the Leopards, the former Shimlas standout appeared to have suffered a Lateral Collateral Ligament (LCL) injury, casting doubts on his availability for several months.

Pieter Bergh, the Griquas coach, informed OFM Sport that Oosthuizen, affectionately known as “Vlam,” underwent scans on Monday to assess the extent of the injury.

“Vlam is undergoing a scan today (Monday), and indications point to an LCL knee injury,” Bergh stated. “We’re hopeful that he’ll only be sidelined for approximately three months, but the definitive prognosis will only be known after the scans. We’re optimistic for positive news, hoping it’s just a three-month setback and not longer, although he will certainly be out for a considerable period.”

Unfortunately, this injury has ruled Oosthuizen out of contention for the upcoming Cup final against the Pumas in Nelspruit.

However, there are silver linings for the Griquas, as former captain Niel Otto showcased an outstanding performance against the Leopards, offering assurance in Oosthuizen’s absence. Additionally, they possess talents like Thabo Ndimande, known for his exciting and hard-working style of play, providing further depth to the squad.

The highly anticipated Cup final between the Pumas and the Griquas is scheduled for Saturday at 16:00 in Nelspruit.
